Massachusetts General Hospital(MGH)
JOB DESCRIPTIONAPPLY Executive Director
MGH Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine
Massachusetts General Hospital is seeking a collaborative administrative leader to assume the position of Executive Director, Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine
A remarkable legacy, a brilliant future. The Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine (DACCPM) at Massachusetts General Hospital traces its roots to October 16, 1846, when Boston dentist William Thomas Green Morton, in front of a crowd of skeptical onlookers, including the eminent Boston surgeon John Collins Warren, administered diethyl-ether vapors to a patient about to undergo a surgical operation. Moments later, the surgeon raised a scalpel and made an incision in the patient s neck. To the audience s astonishment, the patient did not scream. Gentlemen, the flinty Surgeon-in-Chief later stated, this is no humbug. At Mass General, which opened its doors in 1821, only one operation a week was performed in the years preceding the ether demonstration. After that historic event, surgery flourished as a field with new and complex operations. Today, DACCPM provides coverage for more than 50,000 procedures in 67 operating rooms and 25 additional locations on the main hospital campus, and a total anesthetic volume of 90,000 across Mass General and our affiliates.
This history illustrates the continued commitment of the MGH Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine clinicians and staff to the compassionate, state-of-the-art anesthetic and perioperative care they provide patients of the Mass General and associated hospitals.
