The Air Traffic Control Systems Group develops sensors, automated forecasting systems, and decision support tools to reduce the impact of adverse weather on aviation. To accomplish this, the group combines MIT Lincoln Laboratory expertise in innovative sensor data-fusion, data processing and dissemination, meteorology, human factors, systems analysis, computer science, and decision support technologies. Key accomplishments have included the development of the FAA's Terminal Doppler Weather Radar, ASR-9 Weather Systems Processor, Integrated Terminal Weather System, Corridor Integrated Weather System, Route Availability Planning Tool, and prototypes for the NextGen Weather Processor, Multifunction Phased Array Radar, and Terminal Flight Data Manager systems. Job Description

The Air Traffic Control Systems Group is developing a range of advanced technologies to improve air transportation safety and efficiency. This position is for a Technical Staff to work with a multi-disciplinary team to perform analyses and develop decision support systems for complex transportation problems. Applications include air traffic management, airspace and airport capacity prediction, environmental impact mitigation, and efficient procedures enabled by advanced ground and flight deck technologies. Work will involve modeling and analysis, algorithm development, systems integration, documentation, sponsor engagement and evaluation of systems in simulated and operational environments.

Requirements: PhD in Applied Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or other technical field with demonstrated academic excellence coupled with the ability to apply talents to new fields at both the technically detailed and big picture levels is required. In lieu of a PhD, an MS with 5+ years of directly related experience will be considered. Demonstrated excellence in communication skills and the ability to convey technical concepts in a clear, concise manner to a wide spectrum of audiences are required. The candidate must work in both a team-oriented environment and independently.
