Description
Responsible for the development, follow-up and launching of new welding equipment, assembly tools, and processes to produce high quality prototype and production parts at required run rates.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Works under minimum supervision.

Review released parts/assembly prints to Midway for manufacturing weld and assembly feasibility.

Review released parts/assembly prints and the quoted process for cost savings.

As required, prepares requests for quote package (RFQ) to send out to tool shops for the design and building of tooling to produce the released parts.

Implement the request for purchase order package and submit for approval.

As required, participate as a member in the engineering and planning program as it pertains to their assigned parts.

Assist in the processing and delivery of prototype parts by assuring welding and assembly processes are in replicating production process intent, parts contain and meet part print specification, and provide updated information regarding engineering changes.

Maintain thorough familiarity with welding/assembly developments and new materials in the industry which may be adaptable for use by our organization.

Participate in broad engineering assignments requiring originality and ingenuity with appreciable latitude for un-reviewed action or decision.

Originates and applies new and unique engineering methods.

Act as Midway's Manufacturing/Engineering representative to tool shops who have been awarded the responsibility to design and build welding or assembly tools. Making sure that Midway's and Midway's customer specifications are followed including quality, cost and timing constraints during the tool build.

Conduct periodic reviews at the tool shops to validate and assure on time delivery of equipment.

Track timing weekly by obtaining timelines from tool shops.
Perform trip reports when visiting tool shops.
Coordinate with other Midway departments to provide a smooth and timely launch of equipment at the assigned Midway plant(s)

Work in partnership with the Advanced Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Controls Group to significantly improve the tooling, equipment and processes delivered to our plants.

Develop new tooling and equipment to operate at our defined quoted rate or run rate, defined in the Process Payback Review conducted by the Advanced Engineering and Industrial Engineering Teams.

Work in partnership with the plant personnel to improve the overall operating performance of our plants, through the identification and implementation of concepts/ideas that improve the overall operational performance of our plants and meet throughput commitments.

Work with the Advanced Engineering group to develop an optimized and efficient process utilizing lean manufacturing principles.

Apply world class continuous improvement principles (VSM, Lean, 6-Sigma, Kaizen, etc.) to all our new tooling, equipment & processes.

Implement OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) to new processes.

Work with Program Management on project objectives to meet the customer s requirements.

Attend weekly APQP meetings and provide updates.
Provide welding assembly process and tool engineering expertise to Midway's manufacturing plants as directed/requested.

Coordinate and participate in Design Reviews (Concept, 50% & 100%).

Responsible to complete design review documentation and distribute to all team members.

Coordinate and participate in TSRO s at tool shops.

Responsible to complete run off documentation

Responsible to complete weld validation documentation
Required to accomplish first time successful tool shop run off
Responsible for cell functionality and repeatability
Responsible for weld quality if applicable
Responsible for cycle time of the equipment as designed and defined in the Process Payback Study

Responsible for 100% on time delivery of all equipment
Coordinate and participate in HLRO s at Midway s manufacturing plants.
Responsible to complete run off documentation
Responsible to complete weld validation documentation
Required to accomplish first time successful home line run off
Responsible for cell functionality and repeatability
Responsible for weld quality if applicable

Responsible for cycle time of the equipment as designed and defined in the Process Payback Study

Responsible for achieving part dimensional requirements per the customer specification

Reduce the start-up, launch, debug time and cost of new tooling, equipment and process installation into our plants.

Perform other essential functions as assigned.

Requirements
Four year technical degree in welding or engineering is preferred or equivalent training and experience.

Three years minimum experience as a Welding Engineer (welding and assembly) in the automotive stamping industry or a tier one company supplying the same.

Resistance welding and arc welding skills are essential.

Laser welding experience and laser cutting experience preferred.

Experience in joining processes such as staking, spin riveting, and gasket apply.

Must be proficient in robotics and automation.
