RESPONSIBILITIES

Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a candidate for a postdoctoral position for the development of tools to assess the financial performance of nuclear power plants. You will be part of the RAVEN team (https://github.com/idaholab/raven) and will work to define a value proposition for nuclear plants to better cope with increasing penetration of variable renewable electricity suppliers.

The most advanced techniques of stochastic optimization will need to be deployed on large computing clusters to achieve the best financial performance of an integrated or coordinated system of energy suppliers, including nuclear power plants, electricity production, and several energy users, including different types of industrial processes.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

PhD requirements must be completed by commencement of appointment and within the previous 5 years
PhD in Nuclear Science/Engineering, Mathematics, or Related Engineering Field
Demonstrated oral and published written communication skills (in English)
This position requires at least a good understanding of nuclear reactor operations, nuclear plant economics, and a basic knowledge of financial management metrics (e.g. NPV, IRR), electricity markets, object-oriented programming, and statistical analysis.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Time series modeling
Experience in modeling thermal/nuclear systems
Experience in working on the development of a large software platform and use of software workflow management tools (SVN, git, etc.)
Knowledge of other nuclear-related modeling and simulation fields, such as neutronics, fuel performance, safety analysis, etc.
