RESPONSIBILITIES The Diagnostic Radiology Technologist (DRT) provides services on an as needed basis to the VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS). The DRT covers a range of services normally provided in a similar civilian healthcare facility in accordance with the specifications and requirements contained herein. Independently operates radiographic equipment to perform a variety of complex diagnostic radiographic exams. Receives patients, explains method of procedures, positions patients, selects and sets technical factors, sets up and adjusts accessory equipment, and makes and develops exposures. Perform radiography of the entire body. Procedures performed include, but are not limited to, Cholangiography, Lumbar and Thoracic Myelography, Gastrointestinal Studies, Intravenous Pyelograms, Arteriography, Operative Cholangiography and Arthrography. Sets up radiographic suites and assures that sterile supplies, contrast materials, catheters and other required equipment/supplies are present and available. Prepares and administers contrast material orally, by enema, or under close supervision of Radiologists, intravenously but not independently. As required by procedure or patient s condition, monitors vital signs (blood pressure and heart rate) and reports any significant changes to a radiologist. Performs related clerical duties such as sending images to PACS, archiving images, and case editing of computer requests and reports. As required, maintains records and enters patient information into the computer through the use of the Radiology Veterans Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VISTA) Package.

QUALIFICATIONS Graduate of an accredited Joint Review Committee on Education of Radiologic Technologists (JRCERT) program American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certified Preferred: possess of a Fluoroscopy Permit Current California Radiologic Technologist (CRT) license Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Minimum of two years of verifiable work experience as a DRT Diagnostic Radiology Technician DRT_San Diego VA_ Version 1.0 April 2015 This is a controlled document. Before using this document as a reference, confirm that you are using the most current edition. 2 of 2 Abilities Required: Must be familiar with all radiographic fluoroscopy, surgery procedures, as well as portable and routine general diagnostic exams. Most examinations are to be performed independently. The Chief Technologist and/or Lead Technologist monitors the clinical workload of the Contractor Personnel and may assign procedures, provide assistance, and evaluate work performed at VASDHS. Subject to the same quality assurance standards in meeting or exceeding current recognized national standards as established by the JCAHO. Performs services in accordance with the ethical, professional, and technical standards of the healthcare industry as consistent with VA policy, regulations, and procedures. Must be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the duties of the job requirements, including the ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently. Responsible for compliance with all procedures in accordance with applicable VASDHS written policies, procedures, bylaws of the medical staff and protocols. May not introduce new procedures or services without prior recommendation to and approval of the COS or authorized representative(s) and through the Contracting Officer.
