JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Field Service Engineer II will be responsible for installation, preventive maintenance, and all other instrument services for MSD equipment in their assigned region or role. The position may include instrument assembly and test as required for preparing systems for delivery. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining complete and accurate records for services rendered. Significant travel is to be expected.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Installation of MSD instruments at client sites
Service, repair and perform preventive maintenance on MSD instruments in the field
Assembly and test of instrumentation as part of service needs or production goals
Assess maintenance needs and implement plans of action for instrument service
Maintain accurate and up-to-date record logs and entries for services rendered
Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirements

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate degree is required
o Bachelors or higher is preferred
Minimum 5 years of experience in field service or related work
Experience using basic hand tools and inspection equipment is required
Familiarity with lab procedures and standards is preferred
A background in the life science drug discovery marketplace is preferred
Familiarity with ISO Standards and Good Manufacturing Practices is preferred
A demonstrated level of consistency in performance and aptitude for managing additional responsibility and accountability are required for next level consideration

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Strong mechanical and electrical fundamentals with an analytical background
Working knowledge of electro-mechanical repair with a strong understanding of such systems and their integration
Logical problem solving and demonstrated ability to organize and move project tasks forward in an orderly and structured fashion
Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills
o Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact schedules, accuracy and reliability of data, and product quality
Possess excellent organizational skills
Demonstrated excellent ability with computers and applications is required. Excellent understanding of computer hardware, computer communication and applications
Proficiency in MS Office and other related business software
A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected including the ability to multi-task and work productively in a demanding production environment with changing priorities
o Ability to independently complete assignments with minimal supervision

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires the ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize equipment necessary to perform the job, and move about the work place
Frequent standing, squatting, sitting
Frequent typing, and use of hand tools requiring manual dexterity
Pulling and reaching of up to 20 lbs.
Occasional lifting of up to 60 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position may require up to 50% travel within the designated territory, being present at customer sites up to four/five days a week.
