We have an exciting opportunity for an Inspector to provide inspection services for multi-story, high density urban projects in the greater Bay Area region,

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

*

Coordinating the inspection of the construction or alteration of one major or several construction projects in order to assure construction contract and code compliance through in accordance with project plans and specifications.
*

Approving the quality of construction in order to meet the construction contract requirements, State building requirements and laws.Review and analysis of the construction documents, current California Code of Regulations and other building industry standards, utilizing sound judgment.
*

Make decisions related to the adequacy of construction methods and progress in order to ensure compliance with the construction contract documents through observation of the work during all phases of the work in accordance with construction documents and industry standards.
*

Consult with design professionals regarding design intent and changes to the construction contract documents in order to clarify issues and minimize disputes through verbal and written communication in accordance with generally accepted inspection and construction management techniques.
*

Coordinate the taking of tests or sampling of materials by an independent material testing and inspection laboratory to determine compliance of installed materials with the contract documents using various testing equipment and in accordance with industry testing standards.
*

Coordinate inspections conducted by the State Fire Marshal s office or other regulatory enforcement agencies having jurisdiction.
*

Communicate continually with the State assigned IOR. Any issues, disputes, conflicts shall be brought to the IOR s attention immediately. At no time shall the contracted inspector give direction to the contractor concerning means and methods or how to perform the Work of the contract documents.
*

Should the Construction Inspection and Management Branch (CIMB) determine the contracted inspector lacks the knowledge needed or is detrimental to the project, the inspector shall be removed from the project and a new inspector be assigned.
*

Other related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

*

Bachelor s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in construction, architecture or related field required.
*

Minimum 8 years progressive and position related work experience in required, preferably in the architecture, engineering and construction management industry.
*

Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

*

Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to represent the company in a professional manner.
*

Inspectors shall meet the minimum qualifications for a General Building Inspector or Inspector of Record (IOR) and shall maintain current International Code Council (ICC) Commercial Building Inspector B-2 certification, a current DSA or ACIA inspector certification and experienced in performing the typical duties below, or be equally qualified and experienced as determined by the State.

Electrical Inspectors shall maintain current ICC Commercial Electrical Inspector E-2 certification.
*

Mechanical Inspectors shall maintain ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector M-2 certification.
*

Plumbing Inspectors shall maintain ICC Commercial Plumbing Inspector P-2 certification.
*

Contractor shall submit certifications and qualifications of proposed inspectors to the State for review and acceptance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a general office environment.
*

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
*

Must occasionally travel.
