JOB DESCRIPTIONAPPLY Applied Research Associates, Inc. is looking for Test & Evaluation Engineers to join our multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists in the Capital Area Division, located in Alexandria, VA. The ideal candidates have a passion for understanding how complex hardware systems work and how these systems impact operations for of people who are keeping around borders, infrastructure, and population safe from weapons of mass destruction. Test & evaluation activities will support a Department of Homeland Security customer to safeguard the nation's borders and interior from chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive materials, equipment, technologies, and their actors. Engineers will be responsible for developing test plans, requirements, analysis plans, test reports, and testing schedules in coordination with customer. The team of engineers, scientists, and operators will conduct tests that will take place in various locations across the United States. Tests may be performed based on modeling, simulation, and analysis activities, and some aspects of tests will support the continued development and validation of models. Tests may be designed utilizing procedures such as Design of Experiments. Test engineers will utilize a data collection system to collect, verify, and validate data generated and collected at test events.
This position is contingent upon award of a contract expected in Summer 2020 supporting the Department of Homeland Security.
* Experience conducting experiments or tests in a laboratory or field setting
* Experience using analysis software tools such as Matlab, Python, R, JMP, TecPlot, or Origin
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearancethat
* Bachelor's degree or greater in a physical science (physics, chemistry, biology), engineering-related discipline (nuclear, chemical, civil, mechanical, electrical), or mathematical field
Desired Experience and Qualifications:
* Experience testing & evaluating CBRNE detectors or effects
* Experience developing metrics and conducing analyses using performance data
* Experience creating dashboards to display and convey analysis data
* Background in a physical science or engineering discipline, such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering
* Active DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance, DoE Q clearance, or DHS Suitability
* Master's Degree in a physical science or related field
