As a Mental Health Worker you need to know how to:
* Communicate professionally and in a culturally sensitive manner with caseworkers, families, visiting friends, volunteers, and others outside the agency.
* Supervise contact between children and families.
* Supervise and be involved in childrens daily hygiene routines, chores, meals, and play.
* Keep all residential children safe by remaining awake for the entire shift (excluding break).
* Keep children safe with 15-minute bed checks.
* Maintain unit cleanliness by performing unit chores unable to be done during day shifts (i.e. clean kitchen, laundry, bathrooms, empty trash) as stated on unit bed check list.
* Assist in tracking childrens medications by keeping accurate nightly count of all medications.
* Administer medications according to agency policies and procedures.
* Assist children who wake during the night with needs (i.e. bathroom, PRN medications, processing bad dreams, etc.).
* Transport children using agency vehicles.
* Provide a structured therapeutic milieu to maximize individual success in regards to service plans with direct and immediate intervention in crisis situations.
* Implement therapeutic crisis intervention techniques (i.e. behavior support techniques, active listening skills, crisis co-regulation strategies, and therapeutic physical managements and locked door quiet rooms) as well as procedures (i.e. runaway, injury, and emergency).
* Be knowledgeable in the Neurosequential model of therapeutics, including the use of somatosensory and regulating activities that meet the needs of the children in a developmentally appropriate manner. Therapeutic touch may include hand massages, back rubs, and hugs.
* Attend and participate in agency meetings, committees, and mandatory monthly overnight meetings. These meetings may occur outside overnight hours.
* Document using agency forms such as, but not limited to, therapeutic physical managements, locked door quiet rooms, and other significant incidents.
* Attend and actively participate in initial, mandatory trainings and in-services as required and keeps current on certifications and trainings (i.e. TCI, QMAP, First Aid, and CPR/AED).These trainings may occur outside overnight hours.
We hire people, not resumes. But we also expect excellence, which is why we require:
* High School Diploma or equivalent, required
* Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with children, required
* Current Drivers License and must obtain Colorado Driver's License within 30 days of moving to Colorado, required
* Motor vehicle record and proof of automobile insurance coverage to be updated annually, required
* Bachelors Degree and at least one (1) year of relevant experience with residential / milieu programming or serving children with psychological disabilities, or a combination of college / work experience, preferred
