The Scientific Data Group in the Computer Science and Mathematics Division at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory seeks to hire a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Scientific Visualization to research and develop collaborative visualization tools and technologies that will be utilized by scientists.
The Scientific Data Group conducts research in the visualization analysis and exploration of data, the collection and organization of data, and decisions based on data. Our collaborative work concerns all stages of the scientific life cycle and utilizes computing platforms ranging from the desktop to large clusters and supercomputers. We work on projects ranging from small single discipline efforts to large multi-disciplinary and multi-institution partnerships. Our emphasis is on team work, and it is important for the applicant to show a strong desire to work within a team.
Responsibilities for this position include research and development of new techniques for analysis of scientific data that will make impacts both in the scientific analysis community and application sciences communities.
Other job duties:
- Conduct research in methods that enable insight from scientific data using scientific visualization techniques
- Publish and present research results in journals and conferences
- Joint work with other members of the Scientific Data Group and collaborating partners at other government laboratories, universities, and industry
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, or a related field
- Experience with modern programming languages
- Experience working with scientific data
- Strong social and communiation skills and experience working with multidisciplinary teams
- Strong publication records in areas of expertise
Applicants cannot have received their PhD more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. The appointment length will be up to 24 months with the potential for extension. Initial appointments and extensions are subject to performance and availability of funding.
