Technology Advancement & Commercialization (TAC) provides scientific and engineering solutions for difficult problems existing in the fields of health, energy and environment. In TAC, applied research and development, along with prototyping and scale-up activities, are concentrated in numerous research and application labs, as well as in a pilot plant facility located on RTI s main campus.

TAC s scientific and engineering experts cover a broad spectrum of disciplines including biomechanical, chemical, electrical, environmental and mechanical engineering. They commonly work on cross-disciplinary research teams with biologists, chemists and physicists.

These experts are focused on technology platforms that cover:


Health (diagnosis and treatment of disease)

Advanced materials

Industrial water

Exposure and environmental protection * Biofuels


Carbon dioxide capture and conversion

Sustainable chemical products

Gas separations and cleaning

Gas conversion

TAC s clients include multiple US government agencies, foreign countries, foundations, universities and private-sector companies. In addition to research programs, TAC also provides testing services for unique applications and commercialization of technology typically in the form of licensing and new company formation.

We are currently seeking to add senior level leadership business development and marketing support including gathering business intelligence and building business networks. A first primary responsibility is to lead business development activities in support of technical divisions within TAC. This includes identifying, researching, and analyzing new opportunities in existing TAC markets such as the US DOD, DOE, EPA and NIH; supporting business capture and creating cost share partnerships; and managing, leading and writing proposals for work funded by US Government Agencies and other key clients.

Additional responsibilities will include but not be limited to:


Explore business opportunities in new markets for TAC and advise on the selection of new opportunities in these markets for capture activities.

Lead marketing activities in support of creating awareness of TAC capabilities and technologies within selected markets in the government and public sectors.

Lead periodic assessments of TAC business opportunity pipeline in coordination with directors and provide routine business development activity updates to Salesforce.

Represent TAC to local, state and federal government officials, private sector companies, donors, foundations, and professional and voluntary associations, identifying synergies and developing partnerships and alliances as appropriate. Present and speak effectively on RTI s broader institutional capabilities.

Communicate business intelligence gathered to division directors, technology platform leaders and staff in a timely and open manner.

Participate in broad TAC representation to clients and partners, as required, in Washington DC or elsewhere to include active networking and marketing at technical conferences and workshops and promotion of RTI broadly at these events both inside and outside the United States.

12 years of related experience

Experience leading and writing winning technical proposals for US-DOE, NIH, DoD, EPA, or other key funders of research in the Health, Energy and Environmental sectors.

Strong working knowledge of Salesforce and SharePoint.

Excellent computer skills, including the ability to create large quantities of client presentations using extensive forms of experimental data from technical staff.

Proven ability to effectively represent an organization and win new business.

Excellent knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal, networking and presentation skills.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet strict deadlines

Ability to travel as needed, included internationally



PhD or MS degree in Chemical, Process, Environmental Engineering, Physical Science, or related field

MBA plus exceptional vocational experience in science and engineering or related field

Experience specifically in cost-shared government funded projects
