JOB DESCRIPTION

This position is a fulltime Exempt (salary) position, supporting the ARNG Mission Command Training Support Program (MCTSP). The SST Terrain Database Engineer provides networking support for the MTC and any exercise support in preparation for training and is the GIS (Geographical Information System) Subject Matter Expert.

May support work originating any/all of the following locations/regions:


* Camp Atterbury, IN
* Ft. Chaffee, AR
* Camp Dodge, IA
* Ft. Indiantown Gap, PA
* Gowen Field, ID
* Ft. Leavenworth, KS

Duties & Responsibilities:


* Responsible for providing operator, instructor, and technical and administrative support necessary to sustain and enhance the effective training of U.S. Army Commanders and their staffs.
* Applies advanced troubleshooting skills necessary to manage MCS and other related system software issues.
* Provides IT Technical Support for the MTC and its functional training teams.
* Manages MCS and other related systems with IAVAs and updates.
* Provide units with a simulation training environment utilizing government provided hardware and software configured to fulfill the needs of a simulation control plan.
* Assists team members in the installation, configuration and operation of the operating system(s), security and simulation software necessary to the training environment; assists units with power hookup on pads.
* Responsible for TCP/IP networks and protocols. Tracks and reports system/software anomalies that are reported to system developers for corrections.
* Design, generate, edit, and manage terrain databases for all models within the JLVC, JLCCTC, LVC-G
* Create digital terrain in support of live, and constructive applications and mission command systems
* Develop and analyze topographic and thematic map data in support of training and operational missions. Maintain historical terrain, imagery, map, texture and data sets.
* Conduct configuration management of the terrain production tools
* Collaborate with other terrain laboratories as required to include, but not limited to Synthetic Environment Core (SE-CORE), Deputy Chief of Staff, Engineer (DSCENG), and National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA); establishing working relationships and refining products
* Test and evaluate emerging terrain technologies and able to provide recommendations

Required Qualifications:


* Educational Equivalent: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related field preferred or 5 years related experience.
* Experience: 5+ years experience: operating modeling and simulation technologies such as JLCCTC, JCATS, VBS2/VBS3, LOTS and DXTRS. Integrating simulation and MCIS systems / end-to-end support of MCIS stimulation. Utilizing digital mapping technologies, specifically integration of base maps (CADRG, DTED, etc.) into simulations and/or MCIS. Experience supporting IT system configuration, troubleshooting and IT quality assurance. Developing simulation databases and complex scenarios that meet commanders' training objectives during constructive exercises.
* Specific Knowledge & Skills Acquired: Knowledge of how to utilize a combination of COTS and GOTS products (including Erdas Imagine, ESRIArcGIS, GlobalMapper, TerraSim TerraTools, Presagis TerraVista and Creator,Adobe Photoshop, JLCCTC STT Editor, and RUGUD).
* Licenses/Certifications/Registrations, etc.: Must possess a valid State Driver's License and maintain Post driving privileges. Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance and meet other eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Must be able to successfully pass the Defense Information System Agency (DISA) Information Systems Security (INFOSEC) Awareness compact disk--read-only memory (CD-ROM) course as a minimum training requirement.
* Communication Skills: Able to read, write and speak fluent English. Must be able to listen with comprehension to assist fellow associates with duties/requests. Must have excellent verbal communication skills for interfacing with military and civilian personnel.
* Physical/Mental Abilities Required: Must be highly detailed oriented. Ability to use good judgment and common sense when performing job functions. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks at the same time under stressful conditions. The highest level of confidentiality and loyalty is required.

Working Conditions:

Position: Office environment, occasionally outdoors. Occasional exposure to natural conditions existing at different location around the US.

Work Week: Monday-Friday (may vary based on mission requirements)

Work Hours: 0800 - 1700 (may vary based on mission requirements)
