Sr. Process Engineer


The Senior Process Engineer has overall accountability for managing the technical process details (formulations, process controls, etc.) to optimize process efficiency and product cost, quality, capacity utilization, and operability of The Senior Process Engineer has overall accountability for managing the technical process details (formulations, process controls, etc.) to optimize process efficiency and product cost, quality, capacity utilization, and operability of production processes. This position has responsibility in the manufacture of fused quartz products sold to customers in the semiconductor, fiber optic and lighting industries. This position requires technical excellence and the ability to work with a team of engineers, technology, and production workers to produce high quality quartz in a safe and cost-effective environment. Provide leadership, engineering expertise and excellence to the Operations and Maintenance teams in support of Safety, Quality, Productivity, Delivery and Organizational Development initiatives. Assist in the sustainability of stable operations and a Continuous Improvement and Safety culture through leadership, training and collaboration with internal and external resources.
Position responsibilities will expand with tenure & skills development to become one of our Quartz Process Experts providing technical expertise and consultation to multiple Quartz processing locations. These increased responsibilities will include 10% Travel, including internationally.



* Serves as the process expert for all manufacturing processes on-site and leads in the troubleshooting of chemistry, technology, and quality related issues, interfacing with Global MPM teams as necessary

* Build a sustainable and trusted Relationship to Momentive Quartz and Ceramics Technology and Global Operations Leadership Teams

* Improvement of Quality for Produced Materials at Site

* Establish / execute / maintain gap analysis of Continuous Improvement Processes

* Works with the Global Operations, Process Technology, and Supply Chain teams to identify and transfer processes/products into the site in an effort to balance global capacity utilization and new product introduction capabilities

* Partner with Commercial and Technology teams regarding NPI (New Product Introduction) and NPT (New Product Transfer) and provide for operational approval

* Manages activity to effectively implement new processes/products - translating from other sites and/or scaling up new product introductions

* Ensure compliance with standards for EHS, cost control, waste reduction, quality

* Provide effective leadership and execution tools to deliver both VCP (cost reduction/productivity) and capital projects

* Identifies necessary process equipment modifications and leads project scope development and execution to support new process/product introduction into the site

* Recommends modifications or additions which will address projects for operational improvements

* Identifying process safety reactivity evaluations, process training and operating procedures

* Directs activities so that approved products and projects are introduced on time

* Ensures new production processes are implemented in compliance with Environmental and Process Safety regulations and Momentive policies and standards

* Ensure proper documentation for Site (e.g. Permits on file, MOC Process, audit data)

* Troubleshooting of significant processing issues and incidents where chemical formulations/tight tolerance material specifications are involved

* Communicate to site and Senior Leadership team as required

* Work with production leader and area resources to determine and communicate the prioritization of activities

* Coordinate change management activities in the area

* Provides critical support to the site leadership in the cultural journeys of EHS, and Quality, Customer Focus, and Continuous Improvement

* Identifying training and development needs of direct reports

* Provide strong hands on leadership that engages all associates

* Embrace continuous improvement philosophies and tools to engage employees

* Lead and assist in the development and sustainability of 5S in areas of responsibility

* Drive continuous improvement in areas of safety, product quality, product delivery, and product cost through the analysis of plant data and collaboration with Operations and Maintenance personnel

* Reduce product lead time via the implementation of Lean Manufacturing concepts on the production line

* Facilitate problem solving (root cause analysis) with Corrective action through collaboration with operations, production, maintenance, and other support organizations

* Initiates recommendations on purchases of new equipment and improvements

* Analyze process and production data to identify trends and ensure process stability

* Ensure quality is maintained through analysis of chemistry results of incoming raw materials, process reliability, in-process testing and final product certification

* Ensure Compliance with local law for Permits

* Ensure compliance with Company standards for EHS, cost control, waste reduction and quality

* Identify, Trial, Approve, Manage and execute Appropriated Requests for the process and facility, including next generation capacities

Additional Details:

Position / Reporting Relationship:

* The Sr. Process Engineer will report directly to the Furnace & FO Finishing Operations Manager at the Willoughby location for the Quartz business.

* Bachelor s degree in Engineering

* Minimum 5 years experience as Process or Continuous Improvement Engineer

* Minimum 7 years experience in Manufacturing Operations with at least 2 years in a leadership role

* Strong leadership/change management skills

* Demonstrated Capital Project Management Skills including engagement and management of internal and external resources

* A track record of leading Continuous Improvement efforts with demonstrated sustained outcomes.

* Program / Large-scale project experience required; including demonstrated familiarity with Capital Project Management tools and techniques

* Strong analytical expertise coupled with excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills to all levels.

* Green Belt level Lean/Six Sigma Skills


* Bachelor s degree in Chemical Engineering

* Background in manufacturing industry in a global company

* Black Belt Certification

* Strong CI/Lean experience

* Proficiency in SAP

* Energetic self-starter, delivers on commitments with a proven track record of sustainable performance

* Previous leadership experience in Chemical process environment

* Experience in Operational Excellence

* Exhibits a sense of urgency which translates to the floor

* Experience in quartz manufacturing processes and/or high temperature induction furnace operations

* Exhibits desire and courage to learn new skills and assume broader roles in the organization
