JOB DESCRIPTIONJOB OVERVIEW
Under mentorship and supervision by your Principal Investigator (PI), you will learn about and assist with the Fiji project that is a study of incidence, prevalence and risk factors for C. trachomatis and N. gonorrhea sexually transmitted diseases among men and women in Fiji and point of care diagnostics for detecting each pathogen. You will learn how to assist in running the specific activities of the study, including data entry and maintaining the clinical and laboratory database for the study, running tests in the laboratory on the clinical samples and data entry for the sample results, and maintaining an inventory of all reagents, supplies and kits for the study (both for the lab and the clinic), and all samples and where they are stored. You will also learn how to maintain MoH and outreach clinic schedules, and also ensure that consent and enrollment forms are completed and entered into the database. You will be required to complete standard certification and training courses on the use of human subjects in research in addition to laboratory safety.

The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest and most complex departments in the School of Medicine (SOM). The department is comprised of 17 divisions employing over 300 faculty, 83 fellows, 84 residents, 31 Post Docs and non-faculty academics and 170 staff. The Department has annual clinical income from inpatient and outpatient activities totaling over $90 million and annual extramural funding (contracts and grants) exceeding $40 million. The department ranks 17th in the nation among Pediatric departments for funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
The Department s clinical enterprise is based at the 183-bed UCSF Benioff Children s Hospital (BCH) San Francisco, the 191-bed UCSF Benioff Children s Hospital Oakland, Mount Zion, Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG), and at a number of outreach clinics throughout Northern California, providing the Department with an unsurpassed opportunity to meet the needs of infants, children, and young adults throughout the Bay Area. Required Qualifications: BA/BS degree in a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience in general laboratory methods, data entry and database maintenance
Preferred Qualifications: Complete standard certification and training courses on the use of human subjects in research
Laboratory safety training
Previous research experience
