Our greatest asset has been and will continue to be our people. We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of TAX ANALYST within our PROPERTY AND EXCISE TAX DEPARTMENT based in HOUSTON, TEXAS.
Support Tax Agents review of Ad Valorem tax assessments and their analysis, and process property tax return filings and make payments for assigned Corporation assets. Also, support Tax Agents review of Sales and Use tax assessments and their analysis, and process sales and use tax return filings and make payments for assigned Corporation assets.
* Interact with corporate operating group personnel on a routine basis to acquire necessary data to complete duties
* Support and maintain property and excise tax system data, analysis, and procedures to ensure accuracy of tax assessments and filings
* Assists with document control, retention and digital scanning
* Provide for direct pay permit issuance and tax exemption certificates for vendors
* Support the Corporation in administrative appeals and quasi-judicial hearings
* Provide support for unresolved tax issues
* Support the Corporation in tax audits
* Process payment of tax liabilities in accordance with applicable state tax statutes and local policy
* Assist and make sales and use tax return filings
* Assist and process property tax return filings
* Other duties as required
Job Dimensions and Factors:
Assignment Work assignments are by geographical area, business unit, and property complexity and type owned and operated by the Corporation in each State or Province. Collect, analyze, and review corporate financial and operating data. Collect taxing entities appraisals for agents review of parameters and appraisal methodology to negotiate property assessments and audits. Process and make property and excise tax returns and payments in a timely manner.
Relationships Development of a rapport with taxing authority officials and contract appraisal firm representatives are necessary and important.
Support Interaction with each of the corporate operating groups and business units is necessary to assure fair and equitable valuations and audits on property tax assessments. This list entails accounting, financial planning and analysis, land, oil and gas, chemical, legal, marketing, supply chain, and governmental and community relations.
Education A Bachelors degree is required with a science or business focus preferred. Finance, accounting, mathematics are favorable. At least basic understanding of property tax laws and procedures, especially State of Texas is favorable. Knowledge of accounting procedures is certainly helpful and a positive mark with any non-business degree.
Technology Proficiencies A basic knowledge or better of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access) is required. Experience with large spreadsheets and databases is a plus. Experience or proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server is a plus. Familiarity with SAP and the PowerPlans Tax Management Module is desired and a plus.
Interpersonal Skills An individual with self-confidence and self-motivation, dependability, collaborative, good written and verbal communication ability are important and necessary traits for the positions. A person that interacts well with others is a plus for these positions.
Experience A Tax Analyst typically ranges between 0 to 10 years of experience with 3 to 7 years preferred. A Senior Tax Analyst typically ranges from 5 to 15 years of experience with 7 to 10 years.
