Job Summary Statement:
The Visitor Experience and Events Coordinator's primary responsibility is to oversee all aspects of Front-of-House operations for the Hammer Museum's 298 seat Billy Wilder Theater, Nimoy Studio, and other locations utilized for events, film, conversations, music, theater, and dance performances. Duties include: Preparing the lobby and theater for a performance, scheduling, managing, and training student ushers and box office staff, supervising audience seating, communicating with production staff to ensure timely starts and intermissions, maintaining the safety and comfort of all patrons and upholding the highest level of customer service.

Other responsibilities include working with the Development department to ensure members and donors receive benefits, working with the box office staff to address any patron complaints or ticketing issues, handling any issues that arise during performances such as cellphone usage or photography, and securing the building at the close of every shift.

Must have excellent customer service skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to work well under pressure. Must be reliable, responsible, and a good leader.

REQUIRED/PREFERRED


Appreciation of, interest in, and/or enthusiasm for the mission and role of museums, and the importance of arts, culture, and/or art history

Required


Graduation from high school and one to two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required


Prior experience working in a theater setting, at special events, and/or public venues

Preferred


Prior experience working or volunteering in a museum or other cultural institution

Preferred


Exceptional customer service abilities; ability to engage patrons in a positive, professional, and courteous manner; ability to exercise good judgment; ability to maintain calm demeanor in difficult situations, including complex scenarios

Ability to work independently and initiate projects and strategies to improve overall level of customer service

Polished and professional interpersonal skills to interact and effectively deal with Museum VIPs, Museum and University staff and students at all levels and of diverse backgrounds, outside vendors, and colleagues at peer institutions

Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines in a self-directed, prioritized manner

Ability to establish and maintain collaborative and team-oriented working relationships with colleagues within the Visitor Experience department and in other Museum departments

Ability to work fluctuating hours that includes many evenings, nights, and weekends

Skill in planning and organizing varied work assignments including box office trainings and briefings

Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
